My colleagues Anna-Kaisa Kaila, Bob Sturm and I have now published an article in the forthcoming special issue “Technoscientific Practices of Music; Critical Implications of New Technologies” in the Journal of New Music Research. Our paper is called “Innovation, Data Colonialism and ethics: Critical Reflections on the Impacts of AI on Irish Traditional Music” and explores how AI developed in both academic and commercial spheres influences traditional music communities. We suggest ways for how AI researchers and developers can work critically and ethically towards more meaningful and non-harmful contributions to these music practices.
